Once upon a time, I had a fun little radio show for 8+ years on EastVillageRadio.com called Sandy Acres Sound Lab. I also had a music blog called Sugartown for several years. Then life happened, I moved, I got busy, and EVR ultimately shut down but is now happening again!

Now, in the year 2026, I've decided it's time to start something up again. This is what I'm thinking - let me know your thoughts:

So, let's start this inaugural post with the woman of the moment, Miss Lily Allen!

Have you been listening to her new album, West End Girl? If not, you've been possibly hiding under a rock because she's the shit these days, and that album is unlike anything I've personally heard. You have to listen to it from the first track until the last at least once because it's a complete story. It's so personal and brutally honest - it floors me that she released it. I love the album and find different songs drifting through my brain often. (And now I both hate David Harbour and feel kind of sorry for him.)

My current faves:

I also love these songs from her previous releases:

She also did a great cover of Britney Spears Womanizer - this one has an interesting story! She recorded it in 2008, and apparently, Mark Ronson leaked it online on his radio show (was this on EVR - anyone know??), getting her into trouble with her record label. Read all about it.

She and her bff have a podcast called Miss Me? On this one, they talk about her album release, her SNL performance, and how she's dealing with her newfound popularity.

Some fun facts about our girl, Lil:

  • She got her start by going viral on MySpace in 2005, and her first album was released in 2006. I absolutely loved this album and her so much. Did I find out about her from MySpace? I can no longer say.

  • Her brother is Alfie Allen - ya know, Theon Greyjoy aka Reek from Game of Thrones. She wrote a little ditty about him and his prolific pot smoking before he was famous.

  • He's also in the first John Wick, playing the nephew of my favorite movie baddie Peter Stormare, who was in the 2nd John Wick.

  • Her father is English actor Keith Allen, who was in lots of movies, including 24 Hour Party People and the Sheriff of Nottingham on the BBC's Robin Hood series (which is how my 12-year-old nephew knows him).

  • Her godfather is none other than Joe Strummer. Like, no big deal. WTH.

All of that said, I know Lily's done things in the past that people got angry about, but I still like her. She was pretty young when fame found her and seems to have grown up a lot. She's made very public mistakes and grown from them, gotten sober. But then again, what do I know? She's not a perfect person, and it's easy to judge her for that.

Blah blah blah - let's all rise like phoenixes from the ashes and harness our power to do something great in 2026 :)

Until next time,

XXOO C
