Back in the day, I would sneak into the legendary DC nightclub Poseurs (RIP) when I was just a teen. My high school friends and I had fake IDs and thought we were very cool hanging out with the early twenty-somethings who also frequented the club.

I thought it was the coolest place in the world -- filled with goths, mods, new wave kids, rock and roll types, and more. Located in a corner brick Georgetown row house on the corner of M and 34th Streets, a gothy mannequin hung in a window above the door, and the mod boys parked their beloved Vespas outside. Dixie Liquors was on the same block - that was where underage kids would try to buy beer. Parts of Georgetown were dodgy and full of cool bars back then. Now it's all gone, replaced by gelato and cycling shops.

It's hard to believe that Poseurs was only open from 1983 to 1989, but it lives on in my head because I was exposed to some great music there, so I thought I'd share some with you today. New wavers, goths, and mods unite:

You can listen to the full playlist here: A Night at Poseurs.
